Welcome Spring with the Parsnips and Katie Zanders!

We dance at Decatur Recreation Center each Friday from 7:30 - 10:30 pm

Spring is officially here, Contrarians!

Dance away any vestiges of winter with the tuneful Parsnips (Teri Abler and Bob Kirkman on twin fiddles, Stven Carlberg on keyboard).

The Parsnips: Teri Abler, Bob Kirkman, Stven Carlberg

Katie Zanders from Tampa calls the dances, and YOU circulate the joy!

Come early to help our new dancers get acclimated.

Intro lesson starts at 7:30, dancing from 8 - 10:30. Click here for more info.

Want more dancing? Here are TWO midweek opportunities:

√ Tuesday evenings at the Trolley Barn (click here for info and future schedule)!

Are you a musician who’s always wanted to play with a band? The Atlanta Folk Orchestra, with music director Ed Howe, will be playing at the Trolley Barn on April 8. Practice this tune list (sheet music and videos available) and YOU can join in!

√ Wednesday evening caller practice at Quiman Lam’s!

  • If you’ve ever wanted to try calling a dance in a safe, supportive place …

  • If you want to learn how to fit a dance to the perfect piece of music (consult the house band wizards!) …

  • If you want to dance more than just on Fridays …

Text Quimin at 404-429-9164 for more info and directions. Hope to see you there!

Weekly gentle reminder: please check in and pay at the Decatur Rec staff desk before entering the dance hall. Regular admission is $15; people with limited income can pay $7.

Thank you to all the VOLUNTEERS who keep our dance running smoothly! Here’s how you can help:

  • Come early to help with heavy lifting for Sound setup

  • Sweep the dance floor before the dance

  • Set out chairs and fans

  • Assemble the caller stand

  • Keep the info desk supplied with name tags and markers

  • Sweep the dance floor after the dance

  • Help put away chairs, tables, sound equipment, fans, and caller stand - we must be out of the building by 11 pm!

  • Enjoy a “bit and a bite” at a local eatery after the dance - to celebrate a job well done!

And as always, thank YOU for your support of Atlanta Contra Dance!
