Playing with Fyre Returns this Friday, with Scott Russell Calling!
We dance at Decatur Rec each Friday from 7:30 - 10:30 pm

It’s May (already??)! Time to welcome in almost-summer with the ever-popular band, Playing with Fyre!
Rob Zisette on fiddle and George Paul on keyboard fill the room with irresistible music.
And caller Scott Russell draws from his encyclopedia of dances to create an ideal choreographed experience!

There’s just one thing that might dampen your evening: PARKING. Or the lack of it.
We want to remind you that the Decatur Arts Festival kicks off Friday night with “ArtWalk” on and around Decatur Square from 6-10 pm. (If you want to come early and check it out, click here.) And virtually every parking space in the vicinity will be taken. But there are some options!

FREE Parking at First United Methodist Church, 300 E Ponce de Leon Ave at North Candler St
FREE Parking at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 515 E Ponce de Leon Ave at Sycamore Place
On-street parking spaces are FREE after 6 pm
PAID Parking on Church St (in the lot next to Victory Sandwich Shop)
PAID Parking in the municipal lot on West Trinity Pl at Commerce Dr
We apologize for any inconvenience, cross our fingers for good weather, and are grateful that the Arts Festival will NOT be competing with Butterfly Whirl during Memorial Day Weekend (May 21-23)!
Enjoy even more dancing with these TWO midweek opportunities:
√ Tuesday evenings at the Trolley Barn (click here for info and future schedule, and HERE for more about Reframed, the driving force behind this dance group)!
NOTE: with initial maintenance near completion, dances resume on MAY 6!
$10 Venmo or cash at the door
Most Tuesdays from 7-9 pm
√ Wednesday evening caller practice at Quiman Lam’s! Text Quimin at 404-429-9164 for more info and directions.
If you’ve ever wanted to try calling a dance in a safe, supportive place …
If you want to learn how to fit a dance to the perfect piece of music (consult the house band wizards!) …
If you want to dance more than just on Fridays …
Hope to see you there!
Weekly gentle reminder: please check in and pay at the Decatur Rec staff desk before entering the dance hall. Regular admission is $15; people with limited income can pay $7.
A nod of appreciation to all the VOLUNTEERS who keep our dance running smoothly! Here’s how you can help:
Come early to help with heavy lifting for Sound setup
Sweep the dance floor before the dance
Set out chairs and fans
Assemble the caller stand
Keep the info desk supplied with name tags and markers
Sweep the dance floor after the dance
Help put away chairs, tables, sound equipment, fans, and caller stand - we must be out of the building by 11 pm!
Enjoy a “bit and a bite” at a local eatery after the dance - to celebrate a job well done!
And as always, thank YOU for your support of Atlanta Contra Dance!
