Bring the person you’ve always wanted to introduce to contra dancing … and they’ll get in free of charge!

Be sure to tell the Decatur Rec staff that your guest has never danced with us before. If they have danced at the Trolley Barn but not at Dec Rec on Friday, they are still eligible! And please bring them to the intro lesson at 7:30!!

Support our NextGen Musicians and Callers with a special scholarship opportunity!

ACD is offering partial scholarships to a promising group of callers and musicians to attend Dance Callers and Musicians Week this July at the John C Campbell Folk School.

Musicians Matt Brandenburgh and T J Odom;
Callers Jeremy Peterson, Sam Whited, Christin Whittington and Corinne Wilkinson

But the scholarships cover less than half of the cost of the week (tuition, housing, meals). Each participant will have to come up with as much $830 on their own … unless you pitch in.

Our community was incredible coming to the aid of people displaced and impacted by Hurricane Helene – and we are grateful.

We’re asking for your help to enlarge our talent pool of musicians and callers trained and available to play and call for our local dances.

There will be a donation jar at our Friday dances, monitored by a member of the ACD Board. Or you can donate with Venmo – put “scholarship” in the description line.

All donations will be divided equally among the scholarship recipients, with any extra funds going toward future scholarships. Folk School payments in full are due by Friday, June 13.

Weekly gentle reminder: please check in and pay at the Decatur Rec staff desk before entering the dance hall. Regular admission is $15; people with limited income can pay $7.

Endless gratitude to all the VOLUNTEERS who keep our dance running smoothly! Here’s how you can help:

  • Come early to help with heavy lifting for Sound setup

  • Sweep the dance floor before the dance

  • Set out chairs and fans

  • Assemble the caller stand

  • Keep the info desk supplied with name tags and markers

  • Sweep the dance floor after the dance

  • Help put away chairs, tables, sound equipment, fans, and caller stand - we must be out of the building by 11 pm!

  • Enjoy a “bit and a bite” at a local eatery after the dance - to celebrate a job well done!

And as always, thank YOU for your support of Atlanta Contra Dance!
